The rental company is Hertz. At the Rochester rental counter, only Hertz is available, and the cars are parked in the Hertz area. At the Buffalo rental counter, the two companies are next to each other, and their return locations are marked together.
Staff didn’t even give me a choice ofnot taking extra insurances, pay for fuel option was pictured mandatory. I paid over 500$ extra over what I paid on QEEQ.
Upon return I was told to leave keys in the car and go, next day I noticed an extra cleaning charge of $100.
I will never return to Dollar
I returned the car a day earlier than planned. Although I wasn’t expecting it, Dollar proactively refunded me for that extra day—very impressive. Regarding service, the counter staff were fine. However, there wasn’t much assistance during pickup and return; one person just shouted a few things loudly and disappeared, leaving me unsure of what was said. I eventually figured it out after asking for clarification. Part of the confusion was also due to my lack of experience as it was my first time renting a car, and my limited English skills didn't help.
I initially selected to return the car with a full tank on the rental platform, but the staff on-site mentioned that it wasn't necessary and offered to refuel the car for us (implying their refueling service is cheaper). There was no contract or paperwork signed. However, they pre-charged $53, and I assumed it would be adjusted based on actual usage, but it turned out you have to completely empty the tank to match. $53 is enough to fully fill the tank. It's frustrating how the agreement I made with the rental platform was changed on-site.
It was very crowded that day, and the pick-up process was extremely slow. Initially, they gave me a K4, but I mentioned that this felt like a downgrade and I was worried it wouldn't fit all my luggage. The staff member, a friendly guy, immediately offered to check if there was an SUV available and upgraded me to a Nissan Rogue for free.
Very satisfied, no sales pitches! However, the invoice wasn't sent after returning the car. They promised it would be sent within half an hour but it hasn't arrived yet.
