You can walk to the counter of Hertz - Melbourne Airport car rental.

The rental office is located on the ground level of the ParkRoyal Hotel, opposite Terminals T1, T2, and T3, behind the large Melbourne sign. If you arrive at Terminal T4, make your way outside to Terminal T3 to cross the road . Please proceed to the office to complete your rental contract.

Drop-off Instructions

When approaching the airport area, follow the road signs marked "Car Rental Returns." After passing through the center road traffic light, keep right and watch for overhead signs indicating "Car Rental Returns" at the entrance. Enter through the Car Rental Return car park entrance. The service was quite enthusiastic. The entire process took about half an hour, and I waited in line behind three people. When inspecting the car, I found a small dent under the trunk. I informed the Hertz staff, and they indicated that such a small scratch, about the size of a finger, was not an issue. Later, I saw in the rental documentation from Hertz that it specifies the size of damage that requires a claim.

The attitude was good, it was the model I booked, just over 20,000 kilometers. Supplementary full insurance was purchased from QEEQ at ¥201/day, while at the Hertz counter, it costs AUD 32/day, still more appropriate to buy at the counter. Toll fees were charged to the credit card after returning the car, with Hertz charging a service fee. Added a second driver when picking up the car, costing AUD 5/day, and the second driver’s credit card could be used for deposit and payment.

The car rental procedures at Hertz were very simple, both for picking up and returning the vehicle. For the return, they just did a quick inspection of the exterior. I only bought basic insurance and they didn't push for more coverage. The vehicle inspection was straightforward. Due to a long waiting time during pickup, they generously gave a free tank of gas to every customer waiting. A big company with a big heart!

The car condition was okay, and the return process was very convenient. You basically need to do a quick check and you're free to go. However, the pickup and drop-off locations from QEEQ were very unclear. Nobody could accurately tell me the exact location. I suggest adding pictures and more detailed instructions. Additionally, regarding local traffic fines, I recommend that QEEQ provides assistance or directly handles these. This is one of the most important services from an agent. QEEQ is essentially an agent or intermediary, but many things I had to handle directly with third parties. I signed the contract with QEEQ, so I feel like QEEQ is trying to avoid responsibility.

Arrived half an hour early and still completed the car rental process easily and quickly. They didn’t have the 5-seater Highlander I reserved but upgraded me to a 7-seater for free after some discussion. My reservation included Max Cover, and later I scratched the side of the car in an underground parking lot. When returning the car, the staff just checked it and assured me that with Max Cover, I wouldn't have to pay anything. This kind of service and insurance truly provides peace of mind. When renting in Australia, I only trust Hertz!

The car rental location at Melbourne Airport is easy to find. After collecting luggage, just cross the zebra crossing outside the airport exit to the opposite side. It takes about 5 minutes to walk there. We did the paperwork in the afternoon around 2 PM. We also paid about 70 AUD for all tolls during the 3-day trip. The return time can be anytime before 4 PM on the agreed return day. We chose to return the car at a location in downtown Melbourne, which is less than 1 kilometer from Federation Square. It was also easy to find. There are gas stations near the return location, and the return process was simple, taking about 15 minutes to complete. We got a free upgrade to a new 2018 car with just 9000 kilometers on it. Adding an additional family member as a driver did not incur extra charges.
