I booked a Suburban but they upgraded me to a Yukon with only 160 miles on it—basically a brand‑new car.

Overall it's fine, they tried to upsell other services, just say no if you don't need them.

The pickup location was just opposite my hotel. There were two staff members, both very friendly and quick. There was a steady stream of people picking up cars.

I visited during China's National Day holiday. Contrary to some reviews, there weren't long lines for car pickup at night, probably because it wasn't a holiday in the U.S. I had prepaid, and the friendly receptionist, an enthusiastic African American woman, didn't aggressively upsell additional insurance. I was pleased with the service. I chose a Nissan Sentra, which had only a little over 3,000 miles on it. It looked pretty new.

I had difficulties with my payment card and the staff at Hertz were very helpful and patient (even waiting for me beyond the closing time)
