Pick-up Instructions

The Alamo - London Heathrow Airport car rental location is in terminal

On arrival you can proceed straight to the rental branch via our shuttle bus service operating every 5-8 minutes from outside the arrivals hall in any terminal. TERMINAL 1 CLOSED. TERMINAL 2 Bus stop 7 and 8: Ground floor outside arrivals hall. TERMINAL 3 Bus stop 17 and 18: As you exit arrivals, head straight past the exit ramp to the end of the terminal. Exit the terminal building using the doors on the right hand side. TERMINAL 4 Bus Stop 21 to 23: Exit the arrivals hall and cross over to the 3rd lane. The stops are at the left side of this lane. TERMINAL 5 Bus Stop 26 and 27: As you exit arrivals, head past Costa Coffee and Marks and Spencer’s shop. Use the exit doors next to Cafe Nero and then cross to 2nd lane.

Customers collecting a vehicle in Great Britain and planning to drive in the Republic of Ireland or mainland Europe must purchase European Travel Insurance (ETI). Customers without a UK driving licence may be subject to additional eligibility checks before rental. ETI includes written authorisation (VE103B form) to drive the vehicle in the permitted countries listed below, as well as 24/7 international roadside assistance provided by the AA. Customers must inform the rental location of any cross-border travel and obtain prior authorisation. The rental location must be notified at least 72 hours before vehicle collection to arrange ETI. ETI is available only to customers paying by credit card. It covers travel only in the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. This applies to both the destination and any countries/territories travelled through. Premium, Luxury, and Executive vehicles are not covered by ETI and must not be taken outside the country/territory where they were rented. The ETI fee is £325.00 per rental for all cross-border travel. For rentals in Northern Ireland crossing into the Republic of Ireland only, the fee is £27.00.

The pick up and drop off were handled efficiently and there were no queues. The car I booked was an intermediate car but I was downgraded to a Nissan Juke, a subcompact Jeep that could only take one big bag in the boot and I had two large bags and an electric guitar plus two hand luggages. It was a disappointment to be downgraded but the Alamo agent wanted to charge me GBP 10 per day for an upgrade and there were no intermediate cars. I was offered either a Nissan Juke or a Vauxhall Astra, both of which were smaller than the car I booked. I am very disappointed and hope to receive a partial refund for this downgrade. There was a problem with the petrol gauge. I pumped petrol until it clicked off. When I drove off to return the car I noted that the petrol gauge was still one bar below full which is what it was when I pumped GBP 8.24 worth of petrol. So I drove back to the petrol station and it clicked off again after I pumped GBP 2.24 worth of petrol but I added a little more till GBP 2.40. The petrol gauge still showed one bar below full tank. I pumped another GBP 1.17 of petrol and it clicked off again but the gauge still showed one bar below full. So I just returned the car with the petrol gauge showing one bar below full which is what it showed before I topped her up the first time!!!!! There must be something wrong with the petrol gauge.

First, the instruction to get the car from airport has no detail. I have to ask few people to get to the bus stop to the rental car (Heathrow airort terminal 2) Second, the staff do not have the model I rented (Nissan Qashqai Automatic). He try to sell the larger car (Manual transmission which I can drive). But the upgrade price is much higher than I have to pay for the Nissan Qashqai, so I decide to get the similar car that I booked. So finally I got the Vauxhall Grand Land manual transmission. I feel sort of tricky that they do not have the model I booked the car and prrovide the lower car type (manual) to me. I also talk to my friend about this, he also got the similar problem from Alamo that can not provide the model he book annd the staff try to sell the upgrade to other model. Third, I did use the road side assistant due to flat tyre. The response is quick and professional.

They only checked the tires and exterior when returning, even though it had rained and was a bit dirty, it didn't affect the inspection.

The accident was entirely the other party's fault, yet they still charged us £1500 when returning the car. It's been over three months since we returned home and we have yet to get our money back, with the excuse that the other party’s insurance has not compensated them.

Overall satisfied with the experience. The vehicle was upgraded to an XC40, which could fit three 24-inch suitcases perfectly. The built-in Google navigation system was very convenient to use. The only downside was that the car wasn't provided with a full tank of gas; it had just over half a tank. The staff mentioned that there were no gas stations nearby and suggested prepaying for half or a full tank, which made leaving some gas in the tank a bit tricky. I just returned the car a few days ago, so I'm not sure yet if there will be any additional charges.
