I have rented from Europcar multiple times. Their service used to be quite good, and the vehicles they provided were always very new—after all, their prices are the highest. However, this time the staff acted indifferent from start to finish and did not bother to clarify unclear points. Most importantly, the car I got this time was very old, which left me extremely dissatisfied.
The fuel tank was nearly empty at pickup, allowing only about 150 km of driving, and customers are required to email for record-keeping when returning the car. The vehicle differed from the one booked and was not a European brand, making it very difficult to drive.
Highly not recommended for this rental company. 1. When picking up the car on time, the company asked if we were okay with a manual transmission; otherwise, we'd have to wait. They stated, 'When you made the reservation, you only chose the cheapest option, and if we don’t have cars available, we would have to cancel your booking and refund you.' 2. Nationality discrimination: I hold a Chinese passport with a long-term French visa, license, and certified translation, yet the company asked me to provide a return flight ticket to China. However, the French customer ahead of me was not asked for this. I have previously rented cars from Alamo and Sixt across France and have not encountered such requirements. The company explained that it was to prevent vehicle loss. I told them I reside in Paris and do not have a return flight ticket. They then demanded proof of my residence and asked me to email it to a specific address. 3. Deposit is extremely high: Most rental companies require a deposit of 200-300 euros, but this company demanded 500 euros to be held. Furthermore, there was aggressive insurance upselling. Strongly not recommended! In comparison, the service at the neighboring rental company is much better.
The system was down when picking up the car, and I had to wait for two and a half hours to get it. I was completely worn out from waiting. I booked a fuel car, but without informing me in advance, they forced a fully electric car on me and refused to change it for various reasons. Do you have any idea how inconvenient it is to drive an electric car in Europe? A trip that takes 4 hours with a fuel car requires 6 hours with an electric car because you have to recharge every 150-200 kilometers, and charging in Europe is also not very convenient.
The two-day car rental cost over two hundred euros, and when returning the car, I found two inconspicuous scratches on the rear bumper, likely caused by handling the suitcase carelessly. A total of over four hundred and seventy euros was charged for repair fees, management fees, etc. It felt like falling victim to a 'flashlight-style damage assessment' in the rental version.
In addition to credit and debit cards, you can now pay for online car rentals with cryptocurrency! Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and Bitcoin Cash (BCH) are accepted. Curious about how long a Bitcoin transaction takes or how to pay with Bitcoin? Read our FAQs for more details.
