You can walk to the counter of Europcar - Queenstown Airport car rental.

Our desk is in the Domestic and International Terminal near the International Arrivals area.

Drop-off Instructions

Please return to Rental Car Park at the airport, you will see "Rental Car Return" sign at the entrance. Google map link: https://maps.app.goo.gl/M54PnTBCv2E2ZqdP6 To return your hire car enter into the airport (Sir Henry Wigley drive) once at the first round about you will see the signs for car rental, turn left. Once you arrive at the entrance to the carpark stop at the boom gate and it will automatically open. On the left hand side toward the end you will see Europcar sign, park the vehicle into one of our dedicated spots and drop the keys off at the Europcar desk inside the terminal.

Driver's License Requirements

The main driver and any additional drivers must provide a full physical driving licence with no major endorsements. The license should be held for at least 1-2 year(s).

For foreign renters, you need to bring:

Please note that an International Driving Permit (IDP) is only a translation. You must present your original driving licence together with the original IDP at the counter — photocopies or scanned copies are not accepted.

Conditional:

Towards any New Zealand islands, taking rental cars crossing islands is allowed with certain conditions.

Vehicles cannot travel on ferries. Europcar offers an inter-island service: return the car at one terminal and collect another on the next island. Only one exchange allowed per rental. Contact info@europcar.co.nz at least 5 days before ferry crossing.

Ferry Transportation: Not Allowed

Europcar does not allow to bring the rental vehicle to ferry. You will drop off your car at one port and collect another after crossing to the other island. A minimum of 3 days consecutive rental required in each island (If the minimum length of rental requirement is not met, then the rental will be charged as two separate hires.).

When picking up the car at Queenstown Airport a closer to 9pm, we waited for 20+ minutes before being served. The counter lady is a trainee and told us that we have to find the car ourselves as she does not know which bay# the car resides. Also she could not answer some of the questions on card authorisation and insurance which leaves us quite unhappy. We finally found the car we noted that the petrol was not entirely full and it is not upon drop-off that we got told that we have to take a photo to validate such. Without any further info from the trainee, we simply infer that we need to return the car at the same petrol level to when we pick it up. So we filled up the petrol to full tank before we drive out from our final destination to Christchurch airport which took one hour and return the car as it is. During the rental we also notified Europcar that the electric uplift back door malfunction at times. Later we received an invoice from Europcar and got charged additional 86NZD on petrol which left us extremely unsatisfactory about the entire rental experience.
