Using Hertz for car renting in US a great pleasure.Italy is a totally different story.Customer service is very poor.My car broke down 40 minutes after pick up.Getting in touch with someone who at list speaks some english is almost impossible.After being stranded in the middle of nowhere for several long hours we finally got "road assistance".They simply picked they broken car and .....left us on the street with the luggage and kids in the dark.Next day,we got condition report claiming that we broke the driver side mirror with the pictures dated two weeks before we even arrived to Milan.To be even more confident.....they photoshoped my signature below....Really hard to believe,i know,but this is what my family had to come accross with.Stay away....or at list be extrimely carefull.... At the end,got the full invoice,like i used the vehicle the entire time...

When I dropped the car the parking to return the vehicle is outside now. I was wondering what happened if raining. I was by myself and with a heavy luggage. I rather prefer to drop the car inside to avoid problems if raining.

The staff were very helpful, I couldn’t fault them. The car was in good condition, it did have quite a number of dents and scratches and the air conditioning did not work. We were in Italy during summer and at 35 degrees temperatures it got very hot and sweaty in the car. The car wasn’t as clean as I would have expected it to be either. Otherwise mechanically the car was sound. Overall it was a good driving experience in Europe.

On arrival I was informed that my choice was unavailable as the vehicle was no longer part of their fleet. I was offered a Fiat 500 convertible to replace it. This vehicle was not in my view "similar" to the Cascada I had paid for. I needed a larger car for the amount of luggage and passengers I was carrying. I am extremely disappointed with the service i received and have paid too much for the vehicle i drove which was a Fiat 500L.

1. They try to sell additional insurance , claiming axa is not enough to cover damage / stolen car cost 2. They give bigger car than ordered but with other seat configuration (face to face second and third row) not like in original order . make it hard to travel with children . It wasnt clear from the booking and also no option available to have pick up at the specific terminal. Upon arrival was told needed to go to other terminal which involved a shuttle bus which wasnt ideal with 3 young children and luggage. The car wasnt slightly smaller than expected but was told that it was the higher category, but was sufficient for what we needed. The car was handed over with no damage but upon collecting had a large dent to the rear and was told just to take a photo of the damage. The person that dealt with collection struggled to speak English and struggled on the computer system.

Hertz, being a large company, generally provides good service at their locations. At 9 AM, there was no queue, and there were two staff members available. Although they tried to upsell insurance, you can simply decline it. They were able to fulfill my booking requests, and the staff spoke decent English. I originally booked a Fiat 500 manual, but they didn't have the car available. They first asked if I wanted to upgrade to a Fiat 500 automatic for a fee, which I declined. Eventually, they upgraded me to a compact SUV from a brand I hadn't heard of, DR., which upon research turned out to be a rebadged Chery Tiggo. Considering that I would be driving mostly in the Swiss countryside, the higher ground clearance was acceptable. The car had over 40,000 kilometers on it but was in good, clean condition. If I had been driving mainly in Italy, I would have rejected it due to the challenges of parking a vehicle of that size in urban areas.

I arrived at the store at 8 a.m., waited in line for 40-50 minutes. There were only two counters, and the processing speed was very slow. The service attitude was acceptable. They tried to upsell and automatically added a refueling service fee to the bill, saying it would be refunded upon returning the car with a full tank. They gave me a Toyota Yaris with 4500 km mileage. Overall, the vehicle condition was good.
