After returning home, I received a fine notification and was charged a £30 administrative fee. However, when I checked the UK government website based on the information provided, the details were completely incorrect—the fine number and vehicle didn't match. Is this a case of a mistaken fine, or was there no fine at all, and they randomly charged me an administrative fee?
Picked up the car at the AVIS counter in INVERNESS. They insisted that in addition to the Chinese mainland driver's license and its translation, an international driver's permit was also required. Despite lengthy discussions, they wouldn't release the car, citing it as their policy. Called the Zuzuche customer service, who communicated with the staff, but the result was the same. The company hadn't notified them that a Chinese driver's license with a translation was sufficient. Anyway, I can't really blame the AVIS staff; they were just following the rules. They did agree promptly to note the reason for the refusal on my rental order. Thankfully, Zuzuche customer service quickly arranged a car with HERTZ, and I was able to pick it up without issues. Otherwise, I would have been totally stuck.
Excellent customer service! We were helped by the friendliest person who was efficient, patient and thorough. We were given a car within the class we requested, and a hybrid to boot! Would highly recommend AVIS.
