The car rented from Ezi was in average condition. It had already driven over 140,000 kilometers when I picked it up. The air conditioning was poor, but luckily, it's not too hot in New Zealand during summer. After a few days, the cigarette lighter charging function also broke and couldn't charge anything!

At the Christchurch International Airport branch, even though I bought the super full insurance, they recommended a deposit-free direct compensation for up to 2500 NZD with a 300 NZD premium, which I didn't opt for. Also, I purchased the fuel-empty return option in Queenstown but felt it was overpriced; they charged 135 NZD while the fuel price was 1.98 NZD per liter.

The counter is right next to the airport arrival exit. Turn right and you'll see it next to the coffee shop. This place is very popular, so sometimes you might have to wait in line. After finishing the paperwork, it only takes five minutes to walk to the parking lot to get the car. I booked an RAV4 but actually got a Nissan X-Trail, which was almost new with only 5800 kilometers on it. It came with a built-in GPS, which is very convenient given many places in the South Island lack cell phone signal. Renting with basic insurance from QEEQ, I upgraded to full insurance at the EZI counter for 28 NZD a day, with zero deductible. This proved useful, as many roads in New Zealand are gravel and quite a few stones fly around. The second day, a stone kicked up by an oncoming car cracked the windshield in two places. When returning the car, I informed the staff about the damage, they checked the rental record and told me I was free to go without any charges. I will rent from EZI again next time.

Although we didn’t get the exact model we booked and got a Ford Cross instead (we weren't sure about the specific model), the car was very new (almost brand new) with only a little over 3,000 kilometers on it. The vehicle was clean and had no odors. It came with a full tank of gas and a large screen supporting CarPlay (so we didn’t need the phone mount). It exceeded our expectations. This was my first time renting a car in New Zealand, driving through the South Island from the central route to the eastern route. Over 9 days, I drove more than 1500 kilometers and was very satisfied overall. The hybrid vehicle was fuel-efficient and provided an excellent driving experience, even better than my own gasoline car. Andrew, the staff member at the shop, was extremely helpful and patiently explained everything. He even recommended a local weather forecast app and quickly assisted in answering my questions about snow chains.

Both pickup and return are self-service, and no one inspects the car upon return. It’s very fast and convenient. The store's location is also very prominent, right next to the baggage claim area at Christchurch Airport. My only minor complaint is that the store pushes various services aggressively. I ended up renting snow chains due to their persistent selling but didn't use them at all.
