The self-selected cars were all worse than the reserved model.

When we arrived, we were not allowed to pick up the Grand Cherokee. We were only given a choice between a lower-class Jeep model or another SUV. Very frustrating. Not sure if it's the fault of the rental company or Alamo. People picking up cars at the same time had the same issue.

The reserved car was unavailable, and the customer was forcefully upgraded to a vehicle nearly twice the original price.

Like: Great selection of vehicles and good value.
Dislike: First rep tried to upsell an upgrade and goes onto insisting on a Chinese driver's license even though I had a voucher clearly stating that a US or Canadian driver's license is acceptable. He didn't make much effort to help and sent me to wait in line again at Customer Service counter, where the service rep was a lot more helpful and straighten out the issue by doing a simple check on the order comments.
