Anyway, the X-Trail I got was quite new and in good condition, but it felt underpowered in the US.

I paid in full online, but the store staff informed me that in the LA area, it's mandatory to buy personal insurance or you can't pick up the car. I rented the car for about a month, which cost roughly 700 USD, but they mandated purchasing insurance for over 500 USD. Has anyone else encountered this requirement?
