Great booking and use of car. Poor experience dropping car off.

The service was excellent and straightforward with no hidden tricks.

The staff at Dollar was very patient. When he learned I was planning to go to the outlet mall in San Francisco over the next two days, he recommended that I purchase a road fee add-on service, which included a $16 per day toll fee. This saved me the trouble of late or missed toll payments. Many bridges in San Francisco require tolls, and if you don't pay upfront, you need to settle it online later, which can be easily overlooked and results in fines. This is less convenient compared to Europe. I originally booked a small Nissan car, but at pickup, they gave me a mid-size Nissan, similar in size to a Nissan Teana, and it was a brand-new, fuel-efficient car. I was very impressed with Dollar! Highly recommended!

The overall service was acceptable, but the repeated attempts to upsell vehicle upgrades were a bit annoying. I originally booked a Toyota Corolla or expected a Ford Focus, as I was traveling alone with only a medium suitcase and few personal items. Considering urban parking, I felt a compact car would be more convenient. However, after persistent upselling by the staff, I opted for a Hyundai Sonata Hybrid instead. The performance of this Hyundai Sonata Hybrid was somewhat disappointing. The fuel consumption was not low either, as a full 55-liter tank could only cover a bit over 500 miles, roughly 800 kilometers, on the highway. While it performed adequately on flat city roads, it struggled significantly on uphill roads in national parks and similar mountainous areas.

Would not use Dollar again. Alamo are better. The car had a built in Sat Nav which they didn't advise us of so we paid for extra for a Sat Nav at almost $10 a day including tax which we didn't need. Got stuck in traffic so returned the car 2hrs later than specified and ended up paying for another day hire.
