First time renting a car in the USA, and it was very convenient. After getting off the plane, follow the signs to the rental shuttle pick-up area. Almost all rental company shuttles stop there, and buses from the same company come one after another, so there's always a bus available. The paperwork is simple: provide the pick-up form, swipe your credit card for a deposit, get the pick-up slip, and go to the lot to pick up the car. There is no staff involved, just give the slip with the car number and mileage to the staff at the exit. Returning the car is even simpler; follow the instruction lines to park in the designated lane, a staff member will check the car, take the keys, and give you a receipt, then you are free to go.

When I picked up the car, it was snowing heavily in Boston, and there was no one at the reception area. The attendant was very patient with me. Since I had to return the car early in the morning, the attendant patiently called to check if self-service return was possible. Due to an issue with the insurance on my order, it took a long time, and I ended up changing to an order with insurance. The entire car rental process took nearly half an hour, but the attendant was not annoyed. Considering that I was driving to Richmond, he offered me a larger car and repeatedly reminded me to be careful because of the snowy conditions in Boston. (Indeed, the roads were very slippery that day, and I could only drive at less than 10 km/h. Even slight acceleration made the wheels slip, but the roads were much better the next day.)
