Compared to costs for accommodation and food, car rental in the U.S. is very cheap. Renting a bicycle in San Francisco costs $35 a day, without insurance and tax.

The company doesn’t have many branches, but the one at the airport is large and convenient. As long as you don’t return the car at a different location, it’s totally fine. The cars are new and the process is simple.
