The staff at the location were very friendly. Even though my English is not good, communication through translation software went smoothly. The car pickup process took about 5–6 minutes, and the car return inspection was also quick. There was no upselling of any insurance or additional charges. The car rental company is excellent and highly recommended.
The store is several kilometers away from the airport, the wait time for the shuttle was quite long, and after completing the paperwork, the wait to get the car was over an hour.
The staff was responsive and friendly. However, when driving, you must set the car lights to full beams regardless of outdoor lighting conditions—it can't just be set to auto as commonly done in China. I asked the staff multiple times for confirmation and even had them check inside the car. They said 'auto' was fine, but this was incorrect and violates Icelandic traffic regulations.
The car had just over 40,000 kilometers on it, and the condition was good, equipped with snow tires. The rental agency I booked with was Dollar, but in reality, it's a joint operation with local agencies Thrifty and Saga. All three brands operate at the same location, and services and insurance are provided by Thrifty. Therefore, booking with the other two might get you a better price for the same model. The staff at the rental agency confirmed whether I needed additional insurance. I showed them the English statement on the QEEQ booking form saying 'Supplemental insurance already included, no need for additional purchase,' and they didn't ask further. They specifically mentioned that the tunnel near Akureyri is the only toll point along Route 1, and you can bypass it. Upon returning the car, the inspection was quick, and the process went smoothly. Overall, I was satisfied with this rental experience.
The car rental company's service was very poor. They charged us an overtime fee of 150 Euros for a 15-minute flight delay, gave us a smaller car, and arrived two hours late to pick us up.
