Driver's License Requirements

The main driver and any additional drivers must provide a full physical driving licence with no major endorsements. The license should be held for at least 1 year(s).

Please note that an International Driving Permit (IDP) is only a translation. You must present your original driving licence together with the original IDP at the counter — photocopies or scanned copies are not accepted.

Original Driver's License in Latin/Roman Alphabet

Original Driver's Licenses printed in Latin/Roman alphabet (such as English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, etc.) are acceptable for car rental without the need for an International Driving Permit (IDP). Driver's licenses printed in a non-Roman alphabet (such as Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Cyrillic, etc.) must be accompanied by an International Driving Permit.

Vehicles rented in the United States can be driven in any state in the United States. Vehicles may not be driven into Mexico. Vehicles rented in the United States can be driven into Canada, with the exception of 12 or 15 passenger vans,cargo van，luxury cars but must be returned to the United States unless Renter has pre-arranged with Provider to drop the vehicle off at one of Provider’s approved locations in Canada whereby a transborder fee may apply. Like: Shuttle picked me up right outside baggage claim, pickup took about 15 minutes after shuttle arrived at the Alamo lot. Car was clean, 12,000 miles on odometer.
Dislike: I paid extra for the vehicle to be a Jeep Grand Cherokee. They only had Jeep Wrangler’s left, but instead of giving me a Wrangler, the salesman insisted I pay even more for it. I ended up with a Santa Fe. Not even close! No floor mats even after asking. They also charge $4/gal for gas.

Like: Car renting experience went smoothly although it was a bit confusing as to whether or not I was getting what I was asking for. Prices and offerings were really good so I stuck with it.
Dislike: After my car was confirmed and the credit card info was taken, the transaction ended a bit weird in that I was asked in subsequent email to provided info about my request and a screen shot of the credit card transaction which I did not. I was then told that the transaction would be confirmed in a few days. I thought I was being scammed and was concerned that my credit card info would be compromised. A couple of days later, I did get the confirmation and, I confess, I did contact Alamo to be sure that I had a car reserved because I didn't want to begin my trip with no vehicle or trying to negotiate a rental last minute. Luckily, I had a week for this to work out and for me to feel comfortable. Once that happened, all was good.

I had lost my driving license & I orally I was told by the lady at the Alamo counter I couldn’t rent without the original license - even though I had printed out a copy (I keep a copy on Dropbox) & a UK government DVLA access check code - but when I told the manager I rent direct from Alamo every few weeks in the USA - he said it was fine. I only booked through you since ALAMO had no cars showing as available - so good for you for having stock with them.
