The main driver and any additional drivers must provide a full physical driving licence with no major endorsements. The license should be held for at least 2 year(s).

Please note that an International Driving Permit (IDP) is only a translation. You must present your original driving licence together with the original IDP at the counter — photocopies or scanned copies are not accepted.

Original South Korea Driving License (English version)

An English translation must be provided on the back of the driver's license.

The translation of the driver's license certified by the Australian Translation and Accreditation Institute (NAATI) can be used to rent a car and drive in Australia.

Original Driver's License in Latin/Roman Alphabet

Original Driver's Licenses printed in Latin/Roman alphabet (such as English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, etc.) are acceptable for car rental without the need for an International Driving Permit (IDP). I reserved a Kia Carnival, but initially didn't buy full insurance. The short blonde woman who assisted me had a bad attitude throughout the process. They gave me a huge Staria, which I later found to be too large, so I decided to purchase full insurance. The vehicle is very large and consumes a lot of fuel, but that's not the main issue. Being a front-wheel drive and not a 4WD, it's very heavy, and struggled to go uphill on gravel roads in Australia. It was very dangerous and slid back several times. On three occasions it got stuck, and we spent a lot of time pushing it out. Overall, the experience was not very good.

Overall satisfied, but slightly disappointed not to get the reserved car model. The sedan was replaced with an SUV. The throttle lag of the MG is much greater compared to Toyota, very hard to get used to. It started slowly while making a U-turn at an intersection, almost blocking the car behind… I hope I won't encounter an MG model next time.

Reminder: your credit card needs to have international payment enabled; it's good to have a backup card. Driving on the left in Australia is easy to adapt to, especially since the driver sits on the right. Also, remember that besides using GPS, you can't play with your phone in the car, or you might get fined several hundred AUD if caught.

Overall it went pretty smoothly, but you really need to pay close attention to the pickup time. If you’re going to be late, especially by a lot, it’s best to call ahead and let them know. Otherwise, if you pick up the car the next day, they’ll charge you based on a new daily rate, which can end up being quite a bit higher.
