Driver's License Requirements

The main driver and any additional drivers must provide a full physical driving licence with no major endorsements. The license should be held for at least 1 year(s).

For foreign renters, you need to bring:

Original driving licence + International Driving Permit (IDP)

Please note that an International Driving Permit (IDP) is only a translation. You must present your original driving licence together with the original IDP at the counter — photocopies or scanned copies are not accepted.

Original Driver's License in Latin/Roman Alphabet

Original Driver's Licenses printed in Latin/Roman alphabet (such as English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, etc.) are acceptable for car rental without the need for an International Driving Permit (IDP). Driver's licenses printed in a non-Roman alphabet (such as Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Cyrillic, etc.) must be accompanied by an International Driving Permit.

Vehicles rented in the United States can be driven in any state in the United States. Vehicles may not be driven into Mexico. Vehicles rented in the United States can be driven into Canada, with the exception of 12 or 15 passenger vans,cargo van，luxury cars but must be returned to the United States unless Renter has pre-arranged with Provider to drop the vehicle off at one of Provider’s approved locations in Canada whereby a transborder fee may apply. Please reach to the renting location directly for details on cross-border restrictions. Rentals originating at any Alaska location are not eligible to be driven outside of Alaska. If you have any questions about this policy, please ask the renting branch.

Terrible customer service, we waited in chaos for more than an hour to pick up our car in downtown San Francisco. The staff appeared to be trying but there was no system in place meaning their efforts didnt really help. On dropping off our car we spent an hour ensuring that we didnt have to pay for a GPS system that we were never given. The car was cheap to rent, a new model (but dirty inside) but the inconvenience of pick up and drop off would ensure that I will never use Alamo again

There was an issue during the rental process. The website stated that a translated document could be used, but the store required the use of Alamo's translation software. I had to go across the street to print it, costing me more than 3 dollars and wasting over an hour. Other than that, everything went smoothly. The car was a Buick Enclave, but the air conditioning was somewhat lacking.

Remember to bring an international driving permit when renting a car; without it, the rental location might refuse to rent to you. It might be possible at the airport. QEEQ's customer service said the permit needs to be mailed, but you can actually do it online and just print it out.

The counter service attitude was not good. We had booked a Jeep Grand Cherokee, but they firmly said there was none available, and we had no choice but to take a Hyundai. However, when we got to the parking lot, we saw a Jeep Grand Cherokee. After communicating with the staff, they quickly replaced it for us!
