Original Japanese Driving Licence
Original driving licence + IDP ( issued under the 1949 Convention)
It is required to carry the original IDP issued by a government-authorized agency in the version of the 1949 convention, in the A6-sized booklet paper format, and the number of seats of the rented vehicle should comply with the driving category authorized by the IDP.
Taiwan Driving License + Japanese Translation
If you are picking up a rental car with a driver's license issued in the Taiwann, Switzerland, France, Germany, Belgium, or Monaco, you must present both your original driver's license and an official Japanese translation. The Japanese translation must be issued by the Japan Automobile Federation (JAF) or a Japanese embassy or consulate-general overseas. Holders of driver's licenses issued in the Taiwan may also obtain a Japanese translation from a local Motor Vehicles Office in Taiwan.
If you use automated immigration gates, please ask staff for an entry stamp/seal; without it, car rental is not permitted. Vehicles cannot be rented with a MyNa Menkyo alone—an original Japanese driver’s license is required, and ETC rental is unavailable. For residents registered in Japan, re-entry within 3 months does not reset the landing date for international license validity.
