Pick-up and return were really fast—dropping the car off was basically just handing over the keys and you’re done, the whole process took about 5 minutes. I got an almost brand-new Elantra with only 2,000 km on it. Super fuel-efficient and really nice to drive.

They actually gave us the new VW Atlas, with just over 3,000 km on it—basically brand new! Absolutely loved it, easily the best car of this whole self-drive trip. Funny thing is, this exact model wasn’t even listed as an option.

They slipped in an extra insurance charge with all these abbreviated codes, so I didn’t pay much attention and assumed it was refundable. Turns out it wasn’t, so it kind of feels like a hidden fee.

Picked up a Tiguan SUV at Ottawa airport and it was perfect—tons of space for all my luggage, simple paperwork, friendly service, and it was super comfortable cruising on the highway. Dropping the car off at Toronto airport was just as easy: hand the keys to the staff and you’re done. Overall a really smooth rental experience. The only minor issue was the car key battery dying and needing a replacement, but everything else was great. QEEQ’s customer service was also really helpful. I noticed some differences between the contract and my booking, so I checked with them. They patiently verified everything and confirmed the contract terms did match the order; the rental company just hadn’t listed them clearly. That really put my mind at ease. If you’re renting in Canada, try to choose a company that includes third-party liability coverage—many don’t. Budget is one of the few that does. It’s a bit more expensive, but definitely worth it!

I actually asked to upgrade to the new Q5 myself, cost about an extra 100 RMB per day, which felt quite reasonable. It had assisted driving, a huge gas tank, smart headlights, and quattro AWD. On a full tank you can easily do around 800 km. In five days we covered Banff, Yoho, and Jasper with zero stress. Banff National Park is definitely worth a second trip. Just keep in mind rental cars will always have a few minor issues—just mark them down and take photos and you’ll be fine. The first black Q5 they gave me had a problem with the buttons, so they switched cars for me, which took a bit of time but wasn’t a big deal.

Service was excellent. The staff suggested a CA$50 prepay fuel option so I didn’t need to return the car with a full tank. Basically you pay 50 upfront and just try to use up as much gas as you can before returning it. I didn’t get it at first and the clerk explained it twice, but it turned out to be super convenient, especially since gas stations aren’t usually right next to the airport.

A V I S was definitely the right choice, I’d be happy to book with them again.

As soon as I handed over my reservation, the guy (with a strong South Asian accent) told me there were no Camrys left and he’d have to give us a similar car. Since Banff is a mountain area, we asked if there were other options, and my wife picked a reliable German-made VW SUV with 4WD. It cost us over 300 CAD extra, but the car condition, driving experience, passenger comfort, and space were all excellent. I’d recommend adding GPS navigation to the rental!

They do try to upsell you a bit—suggesting a bigger car, pricier insurance, prepaying fuel and so on—but they’re not pushy about it. Just say no to everything if you’re not interested and it’s fine.
