Driver's License Requirements

The main driver and any additional drivers must provide a full physical driving licence with no major endorsements. The license should be held for at least 1 year(s).

For foreign renters, you need to bring:

Original driving licence + International Driving Permit (IDP)

Please note that an International Driving Permit (IDP) is only a translation. You must present your original driving licence together with the original IDP at the counter — photocopies or scanned copies are not accepted.

Original US Driver's License

Dealer translation are not allowed for rentals in Switzerland

Choosing a large company was definitely the right call. Initially, I was worried about various upsell services like insurance, based on online reviews. We were very cautious and asked many questions when reviewing the contract during pickup, but there were no hidden charges. All terms were clearly stated in the contract, such as a diesel surcharge of 3.57 euros per liter if the tank is not full upon return (which is very expensive, so make sure to return it full). The service was excellent. They held the car for us for half an hour past our scheduled time without charge and calculated the rental period based on our actual arrival time. We were also a few minutes late returning the car, but they didn’t charge us for overtime (which worried us for a long time, very touching indeed).

Initially, they gave me a Q3, which I said was too small, so they switched it to a Tiguan. They recommended I purchase insurance, but I declined. The car had minor scratches, so I recorded a video of the car beforehand. During the return, they did a simple check, walked around the car, and checked the fuel gauge, then said everything was fine, which was great. In the end, there were no additional charges.
