Picked up the car at the AVIS central train station location. Not only was the staff extremely rude, but we had reserved a 7-seat Ford Explorer and they first said the car we booked was unavailable and gave us a compact KIA instead. According to the policy, they should have provided us with a Chevrolet Traverse of similar class, but the staff insisted we pay an extra $35 per day. This is ridiculous! After that, they confidently informed us that it was a 'pick up empty, return empty' fuel policy, which is very inconvenient and costly for travelers. We used to trust AVIS, but we will never choose AVIS again.

The service attitude was average, not particularly enthusiastic. They denied the 'Fuel Service' option listed on the pickup receipt and insisted we return the car with a full tank, citing the lack of nearby gas stations. This added extra burden and cost. The queue time was acceptable.

The service of AVIS entirely depends on the staff at the specific location. The service at the New York City downtown location is quite good, but the Boston downtown location is much worse. When the reserved car model is unavailable, they claim to contact an emergency service specialist, but in reality, no one reaches out. The reserved minivan model is often not available in most cases, even if you prepaid the full amount and showed up at the designated time. The front desk will reject you with reasons such as 'the car is under a safety recall,' and then they'll offer you an SUV. However, an SUV cannot compare in terms of passenger comfort and luggage capacity.
